The Content And Aim Of The Workshop

Interested in Islamic Geometric patterns and need help with tools and techniques? As beginners, students will be guided through basic ruler-compass constructions while learning terminology and theory. 

Basic drawings from multiple disciplines, this unique academic and systematic program is designed especially for Deen Arts Foundation.

Required Material

  • Compass (Suggested high end: Compass Drawing Tool
  • 12 inch/ 30 cm ruler
  • Mechanical Pencil (suggested 0.5mm) 
  • Pencil (H and 4B)
  • A3 size watercolor paper (good quality 130gsm or greater)
  • Tracing paper
  • Masking/Artist Tape
  • Precision eraser (Suggested Tombow Mono Zero)
  • Colour pencils 
  • Fine line pens, assorted colors

Our Instructor:

Esra Aslan
Islamic Geometric Pattern & Executive Assistant
Esra Aslan is the Executive Assistant at Deen Arts Foundation. She works closely with our Executive Director in planning Istanbul-based programs and international tours.

She has a BA in Economics and 17 years of professional experience as a sourcing manager for textile brands headquartered in Germany, Belgium, Italy, and the United States.

Whilst on a career hiatus, Esra has been studying Islamic illumination, geometric patterns and miniature art for the past 5 years. She has used her expertise to curate both local and international exhibitions.
