He was born in Yucheng\, in the Shandong Province of China\, in 1963. In 1997\, he became the first individual from China to be awarded the Certificate of Arabic Calligrapher in Egypt after studying the calligraphic arts there for over ten years. \nIn 2017\, after a period of study in Istanbul with Ottoman calligraphic master Hasan Celebi\, Haji Noor Deen was honored with an Ijazah in the Ottoman Arabic Thuluth and Nasikh scripts\, again becoming the first-ever Chinese person to do so. \nHis work focuses on writing Arabic using a combination of traditional Chinese calligraphic tools and techniques to fuse the Chinese and Arabic visual arts uniquely. SUMMARY:Istanbul Summer Intensive Programme
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Become familiar with the distinguished architecture of Istanbul and Mimar Sinan and its distinct geometric patterns. Prominent infrastructures include the Şehzade Mosque\, Süleymaniye Mosque\, the Rüstem Pasha Mosque\, and Mihrimah Sultan Mosque\, among others.  \nA significant feature of the program deals with the history and architectural structure features along with on-site visits to other famous geometric artistry. The structure of carefully selected complex geometric patterns\, such as stone pulpits\, ceilings\, and kündekari doors\, will be presented. The workshop will be held in the courtyard of Valide-i Atik Mosque\, pending weather. \n\n\n\n\nDAY 7 \n21.07.2022 \nTHURSDAY\nWorkshop \nField Trip: \n\nSüleymaniye Mosque\n\n\n\n\n\, The more complex five-fold pattern on the Şehzade Mosque’s pulpit\, will be drawn in situ. \nThe relationship with the other five-fold designs will be explained\, and its connection with the Valide-i Atik pulpit pattern will be revealed. \nAttention will be drawn to the pulpit pattern with rotational symmetry and the podium applied with translational symmetry.\n\n\n\n\nDAY 8 \n22.07.2022 \nFRIDAY\nWorkshop \nNo field trip as the following day is a trip to Bursa \nNote: It is strongly recommended to have plenty of rest after our workshop as there is a very early start for the Bursa trip.\n\n\nAn analysis of the design known as “the king of patterns” will be made between the sermon platform and the five-fold patterns in the Süleymaniye Mosque\nThe principle of spreading as a surface coating will be explained. The workshop will be longer than expected. \nA presentation will be made about the early Ottoman structures and the architecture of Classical period structures that we will see on the Bursa tour. The features that distinguish these structures from other geographies will be explained.     \n\n\n\n\nDAY 9 \n23.07.2022 \nSATURDAY\nBURSA TRIP\n\n\n\nDAY 10 \n24.07.2022 \nSUNDAY\nFREE DAY\n\n\n\nDAY 11 \n25.07.2022 \nMONDAY\nWorkshop \nField Trip: \n– Turkish-Islamic Art Museum.\n\n\nThe basic four-fold pattern found in the Şehzade Mosque will be drawn\, and its features will be explained. \nThrough presenting a good example of the same pattern from Bursa Yeşil Mosque\, it will emphasize how the difference in material directs the aesthetic perception. \n\n\n\n\nDAY 12 \n26.07.2022 \nTUESDAY\nWorkshop \nField Trip: \n– Beylerbeyi Palace\n\n\nBeylerbeyi Palace: late Ottoman architecture will be compared with the early period. \nThe workshop will take place in the palace garden pending weather. \nThe basic three-fold patterns at the entrance of Bursa Hüdavendigar Mosque will be observed and related designs will be drawn with a holistic approach. \nThe relationship of the building with the design drawn on 18.07.2022 will be shown. \nThe six-pointed star and its symbolic meanings will be emphasized.\n\n\n\n\nDAY 13 \n27.07.2022 \nWEDNESDAY\nWorkshop \nField Trip: \n– Marmara Theology Mosque\n\n\nMarmara Theology Mosque is an excellent example of the use of geometric patterns in modern buildings. The workshop will be held here and a pattern that has been applied in its structure will be chosen.\nA presentation will be made by the mosque’s architect. \n\n\n\n\nDAY 14 \n28.07.2022 \nTHURSDAY\nWorkshop \nField Trip: \n– Dolmabahçe Palace\n\n\nIt will highlight the design discussed the previous day is one of the most popular designs in Classical Ottoman Mosques: it will be drawn with ruler-compass construction with in-depth explanation of its structure\nDolmabahçe Palace: review the difference between the Palace Mosque and the Classical period mosques.\n\n\n\n\nDAY 15 \n29.07.2022 \nFRIDAY\nWorkshop \nField Trip\n\n\nThe four-fold patterns in the visited structures will be handled holistically.\nIn particular\, the design on the pulpit ceiling of the Süleymaniye Mosque will be taught\nThe swastika designs\, which are also very popular in Islamic architecture will be emphasized: their symbolic meanings will be explained.\n\n\n\n\nDAY 16 \n30.07.2022 \nSATURDAY\nDEPARTURE of participants\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
